EVOLUTION & LEGACY
ORIGINS
Motorsport in Kenya dates back to the 1930s, long before the country's independence, with organised rallying and competitive motoring events gaining popularity across East Africa. The sport's international profile grew significantly in 1953 with the introduction of the East African Coronation Safari Rally, which would later become the world-famous Safari Rally. Since Kenya attained independence in 1963, motorsport has continued to enjoy strong national interest, producing generations of talented competitors and attracting thousands of fans across the country. Today, rallying remains one of Kenya's most celebrated sporting disciplines, forming an important part of the nation's sporting heritage and identity.
Following a period of transition within the sport, Motorsports Kenya (MK) has now been duly registered as the National Sporting Organisation (NSO) for motorsport in Kenya, marking the beginning of a new era for the sport. MK is committed to rebuilding and strengthening all motorsport disciplines through transparent governance, professional administration, enhanced safety standards, structured training programmes, and sustainable development pathways for competitors, officials, clubs, and stakeholders. By establishing clear regulations and adopting internationally recognised best practices, MK aims to elevate Kenyan motorsport to world-class standards while preserving the rich heritage and competitive spirit that have defined the sport for generations.

CONSTITUTIONAL STRUCTURE
Our governance framework is designed to ensure transparency, integrity, and strict adherence to sporting regulations across all automotive disciplines.
The General Assembly is the supreme legislative organ, comprising all members and holding ultimate authority over major policy decisions. The Board of Trustees (BOT) safeguards our assets and ensures the federation’s long-term stability through strategic oversight.
The National Executive Committee (NEC) manages daily operations and implements the federation's strategic plans. Specific Councils provide expert guidance on technical disciplines, while dedicated Commissions oversee regulatory compliance and specialized safety standards.
The Secretariat serves as the administrative hub, coordinating all official communications and logistics. Regional Structures extend the federation’s reach, ensuring domestic growth and local racing excellence throughout the Kenyan territory.
The Motorsport Council is responsible for the technical and sporting coordination of all racing categories. It ensures that specific discipline rules align with international FIA standards and Kenyan regulations.
